What we store
Your account: the email address you sign in with, your username, and optional profile details you add (bio, an avatar image, a profile backdrop). Your activity: the games you track with their statuses and scores, reviews (public or private), lists, likes, saves, and replies.
Your email address is used for sign-in links and is never shown to other members. Usernames are the only identity displayed on Checkpoint20.
If you join the mailing list (the landing-page signup, or the "Email updates" toggle in Settings), we store that address to send you occasional product and launch news. Both are opt-in and off by default.
What is public
Checkpoint20 is a community site, so profiles, libraries, public reviews, and published lists are visible to anyone by design - like other social catalogues. You control the exceptions: reviews can be marked private (only you see them), your library's visibility can be restricted in Settings, your activity feed can be hidden, and you can opt out of appearing in member search.
Analytics
To power rankings and trending we record product events like game-page views. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy ("Personalized analytics"); public counters like list view counts are not tied to your identity. We also use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights for anonymous, aggregate page-view counts and page performance metrics: they set no cookies and never identify you. We do not run third-party ad trackers and we do not sell your data.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. That's it - no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who processes your data
Checkpoint20 runs on infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Resend (sign-in emails), Sentry (error monitoring), and Google if you choose Google sign-in. Game metadata comes from IGDB; none of your personal data is sent to it.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account in Settings → Danger zone. This permanently removes your library, reviews, lists, likes, saves, and profile. Replies you wrote under other people's reviews are scrubbed of their text. Backups age out on a rolling basis.
Contact and changes
Questions about your data? Contact us through the address on the Checkpoint20 GitHub project. If this policy changes meaningfully we will update the effective date above and note significant changes on the site.
